Emerald Bird Feeder

This bird feeder was thrown on the pottery wheel, and the panels were carved out to create the cage-shape, 

The piece was then fired in a raku kiln, in an intensely hot and oxygen-starved atmosphere. The clay and glazes were forced to create their own oxygen during the firing, resulting in the stunning emerald green color with crackles from the thermal shock of the process.

The clay body is dark and sandy, and the emerald glaze has a lovely copper patina around the base.

This is not watertight.
Recommended as decorative or to use for dry bird-seed only.
